ELECTRONIC / REMOTE ONLINE NOTARISATION
Looking to save time and avoid travel?
Our online notary service offers a convenient way to notarise certain documents remotely, depending on the type of notarisation required.
Can a Notary Public Notarise a Document Online?
Yes, remote or online electronic notarisation is possible for validating the authenticity of documents. At White Horse Notaries, we perform digital notarisations using the internationally recognised eIDAS Regulation standard for “Qualified Electronic Signatures,” which holds the same legal weight as a traditional handwritten signature. Documents suitable for remote notarisation include:

- Identity documents (Passports, Driving Licenses, ID Cards, etc.)
- Degree certificates
- Declarations
- TEFL certificates
- Police certificates
- Criminal record checks (e.g., DBS)
- Employment letters
- School letters
- A-Level/GCSE certificates
- GP reports
This list is not exhaustive; other documents may also be eligible for online notarisation. Please contact us with any specific questions, and we will be happy to assist you.
How Does Remote Electronic Notarisation Work?
For certain documents, you may need to email us scans, such as a photographic ID and a signed letter authorising us to verify the document with the issuer. We will guide you through the process and clarify what is needed for effective online notarisation.

When is Online Notarisation Not Possible?
Online notarisation isn’t an option for documents that require the signer’s physical presence. These documents need to be signed in person with a photographic ID.
We also receive inquiries about witnessing signatures via video call. However, regulatory guidelines prevent us from conducting these checks remotely, as some critical requirements must be done in person. Additionally, under English law, oaths cannot be taken or deeds witnessed unless the notary is physically present.
How Do You Notarise a Document Online?
A notary public can authenticate a document online. You may need to send us a scanned image of your document along with a photo ID or connect via video or voice call. We’ll explain all the necessary steps and associated costs.

Can a Notary Public Notarise from Another Country?
White Horse Notaries offers a global service, meaning clients from overseas don’t need to visit our office. If you’re abroad and need a document notarised, we can complete the process without a face-to-face appointment in London.
Whether you’re living overseas or setting up a business abroad, our online remote electronic notarisation service can save you time and money.
Can Apostille or Consular Legalisation Be Done Remotely?
Once your document is notarised online, we can also arrange for E-Apostille and/or consular legalisation remotely, no matter where you are. Additional documents may be required according to consulate guidelines, but they can typically be scanned and emailed or mailed to us.
For costs, timelines, and any extra requirements related to E-Apostille and consular legalisation, please get in touch with us.
